Honeymoon Bay:
About Honeymoon Bay

Honeymoon Bay is a charming village located along the shore of Cowichan Lake on southern Vancouver Island, approximately 75 Km (45 miles) northwest of Victoria. In 2001 its population was 629 and historically, Honeymoon Bay's main industry has been forestry. The community was named for a settler who sailed to England to find a wife and never returned.
In 1946 the Koerner Brothers of Vancouver purchased the existing holdings of Lake Logging for five million dollars and named the new holdings Western Forest Industries. In early 1947 the new owners announced that one million would be invested in the expansion of the community of Honeymoon Bay.
To attract married workers and their families new homes were constructed with six duplexes on the east side of the park. Using the best lumber from the mill different house styles and colours created a family atmosphere. Lots were also offered at lease to workers to build on for a nominal fee of $1.00 per year. The mill maintenance crew helped the residents keep the houses in pristine condition. Rents averaged $25 per month. Gas Station, church, school, tennis courts and a lawn bowling green provided community amenities for the residents.
